Oil and Water

Politics and fashion, just like oil and water, should not be mixed, likewise independent and commercial. It has now been more than a week since the start of the eighth, and most controversial, edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. A few have been very open with their critiques, others have opted to remain silent and many have preferred to turn a blind eye to the recent turn of events. Barcelona has a long history of a vibrant and booming fashion industry and it is heart-breaking to see how two steps are taken forward to then move ten steps back.

How to Mend a Broken Heart?

Such is the tragedy, that Manuel Bolaño’s models cried drops of pure ink upon living through this past edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. Inflicted and wounded possibly beyond repair, the independent designers showed their collections alongside other commercial brands. The press seems to be ignoring the ridiculousness of the situation, while attention and money are carefully placed on furthering ties with The Brandery. But enough about that for the moment, it’s not fair to heap everything together in a post about Manuel Bolaño’s magnificence as a designer.

From the 26th to the 28th of January, The Brandery, trade show for urban brands takes over one of the halls of Plaza España’s Fira. The fair seems to be gaining in popularity and is now in its’ fourth edition.

The City “I love it when artists rule the street”

To round off The Brandery and 080 Fashion Barcelona this past week in Barcelona, Convent Sant Agustí, (what a surprise), played host to the first edition of The City. Organized by Park Division and Chicks on Speed, this was an odd mix of music, art by Anton Unai, bales of straw and fashion in the making.

080 Barcelona Fashion – Last Day

Yesterday was the last day of 080 Fashion Barcelona. It has been a great three days, although the organization was ever more frazzled as the days went by. It was quite a monumental task to take photos due to the lovely Elizabeth Jagger strutting down the catwalk for Krizia Robustella and Tramando.
