Oil and Water

Politics and fashion, just like oil and water, should not be mixed, likewise independent and commercial. It has now been more than a week since the start of the eighth, and most controversial, edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion. A few have been very open with their critiques, others have opted to remain silent and many have preferred to turn a blind eye to the recent turn of events. Barcelona has a long history of a vibrant and booming fashion industry and it is heart-breaking to see how two steps are taken forward to then move ten steps back.

When Things Don’t Belong (Thank Goodness for Miriam Ponsa)

Still reeling from the shock of commercial brands being included in the 080 line-up, and to add insult to injury, TCN was the brand in charge of opening the event proceedings on Tuesday. It was the first time that we got to see the spectacular setting of the University venue for this new edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion, which completely eclipsed the bland TCN proposals. Spectacular to say the least, the setting manages to make 080 seem like an important fashion event.

Fourth Day of 53 Cibeles Madrid Fashion

For the fourth day of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, there was a nice injection of sexiness on the catwalk. Sometimes the garments are so watered down, so perfect, so sterile that any element of womanliness is obliterated. It’s nice to see a bit of fresh fun and skin sometimes. Being the day when the two lingerie houses presented their collections, there was enough to satisfy everyone tastes.

This 52nd edition of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week seems to be completely scrambled. Up seems to be down, left seems to be right, designers that have always opted for austere minimalism are branching out into details and vice versa. Strange things are afoot and Day 2 was a clear example.

Yesterday was the second last day to the finish of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. A round-up of the some of the best known names in Spanish fashion. The focus was on underwear as was presented by Andrés Sardá and TCN. Alma Aguilar was the first designer of the day.
