Barcelona’s Textile Museum

I hadn’t had the chance to go up to DHUB Pedralbes since Barcelona’s Textile and Clothing Museum had been moved there. So this past Saturday, I managed to make the journey up there. The original collection of clothes has been scaled down; I imagine that some of the pieces have been placed in storage to avoid damage. This will be a temporary abode until the new DHUB will be finished in the Glòries area in 2012. The building itself is magnificent and also holds the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Ceramics.

Helvetica Inauguration at Disseny Hub Barcelona

Yesterday, Tuesday 1st, was the inauguration of the typeface Helvetica exhibition at the Disseny Hub Barcelona. Located on the ground floor of the DHUB, this exhibit is a celebration of the classic font and the evolution it has gone through since its birth. Open until the 7th of February, 2010, some may think it is strange to dedicate an entire space to a specific typography, but this is a well-rounded effort.

Souvenirs

Hands up whoever has bought a souvenir while on holidays. Maybe an ugly one, maybe a kitschy one, maybe something that you thought looked kinda cool in the shop and then looked awful once you got home. What attracts us to buying mementos of our holidays? Is it to remind us of the good time that we had? To remember a specific place, moment or country? To smile every time that we look at the object because there’s life outside of the usual grind of going to work everyday?
