It’s time. And it has been time for a while. My heart is no longer in it. Life itself with all the difficult issues has taken over. I’m facing many new challenges and decisions in my professional life and Sticky Fingers has lately become an obligation. There have been many incredible times over the past two and a half years, many delicious restaurants, great bars, spectacular and not-so-spectacular fashion moments and many other things along the way.

So, this is goodbye. To Sticky Fingers. I’ll still be available at vera@veraciria.com and will be looking forward to making 2012 totally different from 2011. I might possibly start a new blog some time in the future concentrating solely on fashion history, which is my passion, the area where I carry out my professional work.

I wish you all the best, to all of you that have followed me during this time.

When Cibeles Becomes Benz

Although it wrapped up this past Sunday, I just wanted to take a minute to share some of the better looks from Mercedes Banz Fashion Week Madrid. With a new name and new sponsor, old Cibeles is looking for a new lease on life. Considering that Mercedes Benz is official sponsor for New York and Berlin fashion weeks, the idea is to inject internationality into one of Spain’s now longest-standing fashion weeks.

Animals beware, there was quite a lot of fur in the F/W 2012 – 2013 collections. (Let’s cross our fingers and hope that it was mainly synthetic). Black abounded as usual and practically every collection continued in that tried-and-tested Spanish vein of commercial viability. Celebrity photos are now included in with the catwalk photos, on the same importance level as the clothes. Both Madrid and Barcelona fashion weeks slip farther and farther away from any sort of international credibility. And barely anyone says anything…

So instead of harping on about the lack of creativity, I’ve selected a few looks that I found interesting during the five days of fashion. Few and far between, these garments are little shafts of light, breaking through the clouds. Sit back and enjoy.

As Barcelona continues to dabble around with fashion-week formats that are ultimately going to make us the laughing stock of Spain, in Paris, the Haute Couture shows were a mix of the good, the bad, the interesting and traditional.
