I don’t often feature work done by others, mainly because I don’t like to use photos that aren’t my own. But I just can’t resist sharing the work that photographer Carl Kleiner does. His images are filled with magic and he always surrounds himself with the best creative teams which, of course, means that the results are always spectacular.
I love these disembodied garments, floating in a sea of blackness. I get shivers down my spine. They look like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Carl often works with stylist Evelina Kleiner, who is his sister? His wife? Their work is exquisite. I wish I could find a web of Evelina’s work.
I love these cut-out images. The ketchup one reminds me of work by Alex Trochut. They all have this analogue feel, very crafty, handmade. Reminds me of work done by the great United Fakes.
See what I mean about the great teams? Such creative work. If you were able to attend the recent Broad.cat 2011 conference event, you will have enjoyed Trish Sie, choreographer and director of video clips for OK Go, talking about the nut, the fruit and the cheese as key ingredients of a great salad. She was, of course, referring to what makes a great creative team. That and time.
I know that many of you are going to squeak at these photos relating to Ikea, but it seems that Ikea Sweden is a lot more creative than other countries. Is is because the company is from there? Is it because the Swedish have to spend so much time at home due to cold weather? (There is Ikea in Canada and it’s not nearly as creative). I love the use of colour in these photos. It reminds me of how I used to divide things per colour when I was a little kid.
More Ikea, this time the cook book. I so want this book. So far, it has only been published in Swedish and was an instant hit. The food styling is by Evelina Kleiner, once again, the fantastic duo work their magic. The geometry of the ingredients is absolutely stunning.
I saved my favourite for last, what I like to call the Shoe Kaleidoscope. I am completely in love with these photos. They appeal to me on every single level and take my magical breath away. Such a simple idea, so perfect. So representative of Carl and Evelina’s work. I’m jealous. I want to work with them! There are loads more projects to check on Carl’s web, so don’t forget to take a peak, be prepared for a treat!
