Metallics, pastel shades, the 1940s and 1980s all seemed to be vying for attention on the second day of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. Davidelfin was the only designer to send slightly quirky garments down the runway and having said that, his collection was less powerful than usual. Conclusion so far? Fashion designers seem to have lost heart, lost faith, everything seems bland.
Things started to look up just a bit on Day 3, with interesting collections from Maya Hansen and Ana Locking. According to the other designers, we’ll still be needing leather pieces, Oriental details and lashings of innocent vs unabashedly sexy attitude. Maya Hansen created corsetry that Lady Gaga will be sure to love. With wigs reminiscent of Helmut Newton girls, there was a whole lot of inspiration coming from Thierry Mugler. Hansen managed to add some much-needed excitement to the general proceedings.
Love her or hate her, Ana Locking seems to always manage to present a collection that quietly flees from the more conventional and commercial looks and trends of the season. Check out those exquisite girly silhouettes, the neat layers and tiny flowers.
There are many shows to wade through yet and El Ego looms ever larger. Will the newcomers outshine the rest? Will trends continue to follow commercial dictates? Will anyone dare to break the mould, even a little bit?
