People rush. The ground trembles. The air is slightly stale. The marble gleams dully. This is an “in-between” place, not usually graced with glamour and dreams. The Diagonal subway station’s transit tunnel was the venue for a new edition of SUBmodafad, included in the TMB programme of spring activities.
A small area had been cordoned off for press and guests. The subway travellers could also sneak a peak through the slotted cardboard walls and catch a glimpse of the models. A bevy of Spanish fashion designers such as Juan Antonio Ávalos to El Colmillo de Morsa, showcased a few of their creations. I was accompanied by the lovely Ana Mogo, who snapped away, capturing the best looks on the catwalk.
Mustard yellow and black predominated many of the looks. The make-up was slightly unfortunate, looking rather messy. It is difficult to establish a good make-up choice for catwalk shows that present different looks from various designers. The Modafad project is such a great venture, so much effort is placed on preparing the catwalk events. Yet there is so much that is not being done and it is a pity. Their on-line presence is practically nil, the web being a virtual desert, with news being channelled through Facebook. There are so many ideas and angles that could make this project be the rising star in Barcelona. Their heart is in the right place, but the efforts are falling flat.
I wish them all the best for the next edition and hope they can further their position of helping emerging fashion design talent in Barcelona.
