Presenting the world of modern textiles and the vast diversity that can be achieved, the Futuro Textiles 3: Surprising textiles, design and art exhibition is a journey from fibre to fabric. Textiles that are innovative and intelligent, that aid us in our everyday life. From the 15th of February until the 2nd of April at the Museu Marítim of Barcelona.
Unfortunately, there is nothing artistic or poetic about this show. Futuro Textiles is a study concerning fabrics that are currently being used, tested or investigated. Yes, there are many interesting options, but the joint effort is messy and confusing. Not one of the different aspects is fully developed: fashion, sports, art, architecture and medicine.
The HairDress and the Lunar Bag were two of the most interesting pieces on show. There was no way to understand the natural flow of the exhibition, no indications were available and the content programme, (printed out on an A4 paper), just jumped all over the place. Some of the exhibit information was in Catalan and Spanish, some in English and Spanish, and yet others in French and Catalan. (Brilliant combination that last one).
An effort has been made to include educational sites housed in inflatable tents. Different fibres, fabrics and products are available to touch and feel and the explanations are very good. It just seems that these tent areas belong to an entirely different exhibition.
Save the “Dark Room” for last. Here inside, there are a selection of garments that react with light and the absence thereof. The tree that seems to be glowing with life is constructed from textile fibres.
Futuro Textiles was a big disappointment for me. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop by for a visit, just be prepared to takeaway less than you bargained for. This show could have been very interesting and there is a good combination of elements to have had a stellar presentation. It just seemed very half-hearted.

¡A mí me gustó! Es cierto que tiene poco y nada de artística, pero es interesante a nivel educativo (sobre todo para alguien que no entiende nada de tejidos).
