To tie in with the Què Fem recommendations from last week, I went back to visit El Changuito and take some photos of my own. Located down a small alleyway near Las Ramblas, the street is also home to Duduá.
The owners, Sergi and Aida, are two of the friendliest people I have ever meet. They always have a moment to talk, a story to tell, anecdotes about the different pieces that populate their store. Their passion is contagious and awe-inspiring, as well as their talent for restoring vintage furniture.
Over the years, I have travelled quite a bit, yet I don’t think I have ever seen a shop so filled with charm, so delicate and perfect. El Changuito oozes magic from every corner, it’s the closest possibility to a modern-day Alice in Wonderland. I want everything in there, the vintage cups, vases, furniture, tins; everything cries out to me, begging to be taken home. I have to harden my heart when I go there.
Sergi and Aida have been working away like creative ants, preparing the new store extension, which means only one thing: more lovely furniture waiting to be whisked away to someone’s house. These photos don’t even begin to portray the lovely inspiration that hangs in the air. The best is to check El Changuito out for yourself. I’m sure you won’t leave empty-handed.
