The Brandery: Chances for Changes

Oh, the joys and thrills of spending time at The Brandery… From the 26th to the 28th of January, the trade show for urban brands takes over one of the halls of Plaza España’s Fira. I was able to spend some time checking out everything with Jorge from Trecool because as you can probably imagine, these events are so much more interesting when you go with someone. In spite of itself, The Brandery seems to be gaining in popularity and is now in its’ fourth edition.

I’m not a terribly big fan of The Brandery but I have to admit that there were some interesting aspects and elements. The catwalk has been set up along what appears to be scaffolding, with several ramps. Although the clothes weren’t too impressive, the overall effect was interesting. There were around 10 to 15 models on the catwalk at any given moment. The backstage was open to the public, so everyone could see hair and make-up being done.

Hands down, the Fashion & Living Area exhibition was the best part of The Brandery. Exploring and presenting the manner in which fashion influences our daily, mundane objects, there were a wide variety of items designed by Spanish and international fashion designers. From chairs to lamps, wine and water bottles to Barbie dolls, each designer’s unique vision is imprinted on these objects.

I love seeing how fashion translates into other areas of life. Sometimes the results are fantastic, other times a bit scary. Check out these Barbie dolls!

The other aspect in which The Brandery is to be commended is the small spaces that they offer to the fashion schools. Although it is a very tiny space, some of the schools present to maximum effect, showcasing some of their best students’ creative talents.

Have you been to The Brandery? What did you think? Would you like to go? Would you go if it were open to the public? These are some of the questions that I wonder about and would love to hear what you think.
