Broad.cat 2010

The date is fast approaching! On Friday 26th of November, the Caixa Forum auditorium in Barcelona will once again open its’ doors to receive a host of brilliant speakers and a public eager to learn more about all things audiovisual. Broad.cat, the platform for audiovisual design in Spain, will be presenting an afternoon filled with 4 conferences and a new concept, Tête à tête.

This sixth edition of Broad.cat 2010, curated by Mich Micenmacher, (I just can’t get enough of that guy), is one event I’m really looking forward to especially after the recent Broad.cat Dual in October. Although audiovisual and design are not my area, Mr. Micenmacher pulls together a perfect mix of professionals that share their experiences and their expertise. Entertaining and insightful, I still can’t get the recent United Fakes talk out of my head.

Telenoika will be kicking off the event with a lecture titled, “Mapping: From Screen to Plane to Perspective Projection”. Two of the members of this group of audiovisual creators will share their experience and their trajectory in the world of mapping. Hopefully they’ll get off their Catalan high horses and gallantly offer the talk in Spanish…

Personally, the high point of Broad.cat will be the lecture by Arnold Schwartman. This guy has done everything, from winning an Oscar, working for Saul Bass to being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Introduced by Mariscal, this is going to be one enlightening moment!

Brand Schizophrenia is the talk to be given by Florencia Pico of Fox International Channels. This will be a complex journey into the inner, secret workings of such a huge conglomerate. Playing off the multiplicity of personality disorders, Florencia will be challenge us to think in very big terms.

To close the afternoon, it will be the much-anticipated turn of Studio AKA. Philip Hunt, one of the studio’s partners will be taking about Now & Then, concentrating on AKA’s trajectory without losing sight of his own personal projects and interests.

The evening will end with a private post-party at Mau Mau. There will be food and drink and the great chance to meet the speakers and network. Have you registered yet? Remember that you have to sign up for the post-party as well; the party entrance is not implicit with the Broad.cat 2010 registration. The countdown is on!
