New Section: What to do on the Weekend: 22nd to 24th of October

I’ve decided to include a section on Fridays about what to do on the weekends since so many people ask me what is going on in Barcelona. The section will broken down into Free activities, Cheap activities, Midway activities and Dig Deep in Your Pocket. I’m eager to know your suggestions to include each week, so don’t hesitate to send me ideas.

FREE

mercat_de_mercats_vera_ciria

Mercat de Mercats is an outdoor market filled with a 1001 possibilities. There will be stalls but it’s not necessary to buy anything. There will be free workshops and cooking demonstrations, tasting sessions and children’s activities. Yes, it will be packed, but this is food at it’s very best. Starting this Friday 22nd and continuing until the evening of Sunday 24th, this massive market will be located in front of the Barcelona cathedral.

big_draw_museo_picasso_vera_ciria

Sunday 24th is the date of Big Draw: The Drawing Festival. Located in different venues around Borne, there is an extensive programme of different artists to watch. The Picasso Museum web has all the info, just click on the link above. This is another free activity, so save your pennies for drinks in Borne after checking out the talent.

CHEAP

cccb_book_camp_vera_ciria

CCCB is holding Kosmopolis this Sunday 24th. Covering three topics: BookCamp, an exhibition titled “Small Publishers, Great Books” and two major lectures. The prices for the lectures are 3 euros. That’s literature covered for the weekend!

It’s that time of the year when fashion fairs start popping up and Pulgas Mix is the first in line. With a 1 euro cover charge, it is possible to spend your time browsing through the different stalls, checking out new designers. Held at the Sant Agustí Convent in Borne, just another reason to spend some time in this great neighborhood.

MIDWAY

baraka_teatro_goya_vera_ciria

Baraka is a really great play from Argentina, here at Teatro Goya in Barcelona with the original cast. I saw this the first time I went to Buenos Aires and it was such a laugh. The excellent bit about having the original cast is there is no Catalán to deal with, but you will have to brush up on your Argentinian slang. This weekend is the pre-opening and tickets are on sale for 16 euros.

DIG DEEP IN YOUR POCKET

el_molino_parallel_barcelona_vera_ciria

The renown El Molino on Parallel is once again reopening its’ doors after many, many years standing abandoned. Starting tomorrow, it will be possible to see their cabaret-style shows. Entrance plus a show costs 35 euros until the 7th of November. After that, prices will start to go up and there will be a dinner plus show option.

There’s the first round-up. This is a good weekend. There is food and illustration, literature and fashion, theatre and cabaret. So there is no excuse for staying at home, moaning about lack of money and boredom in general!
