Great expectations sometimes lead to great disappointments… In January of this year, the Vietnamese restaurant Bon opened on Enrique Granados. After repeatedly walking by and seeing great photos online, I decided it was high-time to try it out. Termed the first Vietnamese bistro in Barcelona, my expectations were elevated.
Bon is truly beautiful. White walls, low lighting, slick wooden furniture, one wall painted in delicate pastel green with cherry blossoms and another wall covered in Totoro illustrations.
Unfortunately, just like so many other restaurants in Barcelona, all the emphasis is placed in interior design and the cooking seems to be left by the wayside. Each dish is between 8 to 10 euros and are really not worth this price. The beef was so chewy it could be used as gum. The flavour of coriander completely overwhelmed the other ingredients. The intentions are good, but it seems like there is not much culinary experience coming for the chefs in the kitchen.
The brown, hard-boiled eggs were completely unappetizing and many of the vegetables were in a seriously flaccid state. This was a case of trying to finish the meal as quickly as possible so as to be able to leave. This is one restaurant I won’t be going back to anytime soon. There is a wealth of places on Enrique Granados that are much more interesting.

Have you tried Bon in the day time? Its fresh, healthy lunches are well worth a try and far more recommendable than the pseudo Vietnamese Bon-by-night version. Also, its home made desserts are a must! You can check my review here: http://www.merendolas.com/bon-barcelona

Thanks for the lovely comments. I’ve been following your blog for a little while now. During my last trip to Madrid, I was able to check out several of the places you had recommended.
