What could be more perfect than a sneak peak at Christian Louboutin’s winter 2010 shoe campaign? These photographs are crystal-clear sharp, brimming with fairytale possibilities and movie references. A luscious selection of heels and boots, the master of the red sole and quirky web pages has waved his magic wand once again.
Wildlife, moss, birds and butterflies creep over and into wood-panelled rooms. Each of the shoes seems to be a wild animal itself, silently waiting, while we all, (documentary-style), oogle its’ glorious forms.
Cinderella’s mice are stealing away a shoe, possibly for her prince? A dove, symbolizing peace, flies from the face of danger, while a heel breaks free from a glass bell-jar. Possibly the very jar that held the rose in Beauty and the Beast? This is a poetic manner in which to magnify the shortcomings, the lessons and magical possibilities that fairy tales offer up.
This is beauty of such exquisiteness that it makes my eyes water and heart beat faster. It makes me believe that anything is possible. The shoes become the object of our lust, equable to our goals and dreams, whether slippery as water or elusive as misty landscapes. The sharpness of the photos is intense. The colours are vibrant and there are myriad details to be poured over. In a world filled with danger, preoccupations, lying governments and wars, an unstable and unsure future for the earth, these Louboutin photos remind us that there is always hope and beauty. And fairy tales…
