Just a short boat ride away, Colonia in Uruguay is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Magnificent views, delicious food, cobbled streets and much-needed peace and quiet.

The sunsets are ecstasy, such a pure, golden light, which strikes quite a contrast with the velvet night sky, absolutely smattered with stars. This is a place that breathes fairy-tales.

The bars and restaurants make good use of every item within their reach. Rusty, old stoves used as planters, beautifully hued kettles and tins, wild flowers placed in vintage glasses.

Life is calm and relaxed, the dogs are stretched out in the middle of the roads and the cats are very friendly. Visiting Colonia was an absolute break from the busy life in Buenos Aires.
