There is an amazing amount of theatre plays going on in Buenos Aires. I was able to stop for a moment and catch “Agosto. Condado Osage” at the Lola Membrives theatre. I was a bit skeptical as the play lasts around 3 hours but it was absolutely brilliant! A skewed family where the father is an alcoholic, the mother is constantly doped up on pills, the three daughters all hide various secrets and the grandchild has a serious joint addiction. Time flies by as the story unfolds, at times darkly humorous, at others side-splitting hilarious.
The scenery is visual treat, an entire house has been cut in half, allowing the public to sneakily view the inner turmoil. The activity occurs on the three levels of the house and at times is very fast-paced. A very enjoyable experience.
A visit to Buenos Aires is not complete without stopping by the neighborhood of San Telmo. An antiques fair, Sunday is absolutely popping. The prices are a bit high, so the best is to window-shop.
The whole area is filled with flowers and each store and stall has put its’ own personal touch in decorating their areas. The mix of colours and smells is completely intoxicating.
This is a city so filled with contrasts, from the most derelict neighborhoods filled with garbage and ruined buildings to pristine design and coloured-filled hotels, restaurants and cafés. The best thing is to maintain an open mind and enjoy.
