Saako Design creations appear to be scarves but are really necklaces. And what necklaces! Strips upon strips of curled jersey fabric strung together forming a sturdy mass of movement. The colours are combined to perfection adding to its’ urban elegance appeal. Hailing from Portugal, Joana and Inês are the two girls behind the label. Graphic designers by profession, they soon became weary of tedious computer work and began investigating what they could create with their own two hands. They wanted something tangible and inspiration soon appeared in the form of jersey fabrics which can be found in abundance in Portugal. The duo started to construct their particular necklaces in their free time and soon after, saw the excitement their neck candy was causing in people.
The necklaces have continued to evolve and now include strands of yarn and other fabrics to break up the solidity of the jersey. I can’t wait to get my hands on one. Luckily there are several shops around Barcelona that sell Saako; there is a list on their web page. Considering that times are tough right now, Saako is all terrain and will look great combined with my Converse or with heels.
