Could there possibly be anything better than spending a romantic New Years’ Eve in Paris? Off the top of my head, nothing comes to mind. I spent six days there this past week and it was as beautiful as ever, but extremely cold. I just wanted to share some of the great photos I was able to snap during my trip.
Galeries Lafayette certainly know how to put a Christmas window display together. Mannequins dressed in the best possible designer labels jostled for space with animated teddy bears, gingerbread men and dolls. The massive Christmas tree inside the main hall, where gigantic, pink, gift-wrapped boxes were hung from the Galeries’ breathtaking ceiling. Outside, the Christmas lighting put Corte Inglés’ lame attempt at festive illumination to shame.
The rain was an almost ever-present factor, with a few snowflakes falling on one of the days. It does give the city a mysterious air, ever the optimist.
I went down to the Eiffel Tower for New Years’ Eve. Although there were no fire works, the light show was quite impressive.
Since my purse doesn’t stretch too far, I had to content myself with window shopping. Miu Miu, Penhaligon, Diane von Furstenburg, antique and vintage stores, delicious chocolate shops…
Paris is an enduring love affair and I’ll definitely have to plan my return in a warmer season. Taking so many photos means frostbitten fingers!
