This coming Friday 27th is the annual Broad.cat conferences. Broad.cat is the audiovisual and design platform propelled by ADG-FAD. Around five hours during the afternoon will be dedicated to television identity, concert visuals, audiovisual design, motion graphics and movie interfaces. Held in the CaixaForum’s auditorium, it is a great way to view what different professionals are creating in these areas, as well as meeting new and interesting people.
One of last year’s participants was Jonathan Notaro of Brand New School. The auditorium’s frontal spread of two lateral screens flanking a central screen makes for impressive viewings of presentations.

Four, very diverse participants will be sharing their visions, projects and creations during the 2009 edition. First in line is Mark Coleran. He is a visual designer who has worked in a variety of disciplines. Using examples from his own print, broadcast and film pieces, he will be offering up a study on what we think we do, what others think we do and what we really do.

Next up will be Iñaki Martikorena, the creative director of Cuarto Television. Iñaki will demonstrate how it is possible to develop a powerful, creative identity for an open, public television channel.

Jeff Conrad of Red Bee Media will be in charge of the third slot of the afternoon. With a succession of award-winning work, they consider themselves “The Channel Transformers”. Jeff, who is an expert in media branding, directs the team at Red Bee, laying down careful strategies to create beautiful yet functional television identity.

To finish off the event, Quayola will be showcasing his intelligent mix of work, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. A true visual artist, Quayola’s work is digital poetry, combining the unimaginable to create flowing pieces of work. His lecture will be a voyage into his mind, demonstrating his inspiration processes and working methodology. He will reflect on the impact that art, music and architecture play in his pieces.

Tickets are running out fast, there are still 2 days left to sign up. This year’s edition has incorporated an additional extra, an after-party at MauMau. What is an event without a good after-party? There will be food and drinks and great opportunities to talk to professionals in the industry. Possible contacts, which is always a plus. The great mix of different lectures and a great atmosphere makes for an event that I’ll not be missing!
